'Catastrophic' warning as 2025 is officially third warmest year

A Leeds scientist has described rising temperatures as “catastrophic for ecosystems, human health and our food and water systems”.
Temperatures hit as high as 32' C in parts of Leeds in summer 2025 as the city was struck by another heatwave.
Today it was confirmed that globally, 2025 was the third warmest year on record.
Scientists around the world-including at the UK's Met Office and the National Centre for Atmospheric Sciencehave released their data for 2025, revealing it was the third year in a row with temperatures more than 1.4C above pre-industrial levels.
