In the 1950s, the tobacco industry launched a well-funded campaign to deny the growing evidence of a link between smoking and cancer.

This well-documented deception worked for decades, causing needless suffering while protecting company profits and avoiding legal costs.
By the 1970s, a similar story was unfolding with the fossil fuel industry. Exxon's own scientists were predicting, with remarkable accuracy, how global warming would be accelerated by greenhouse gas emissions.
