TOPSHAM routed lowly Marlborough 61-10 to keep the pressure up on South West One leaders Devonport Services.

The gap between Services and Topsham remains just two points as the Christmas break approaches.

Who is top of the tree at Christmas will depend on the outcome of this Saturday’s round of matches. Topsham travel to struggling Sidmouth; Services go to a St Austell side that has won six games on the spin.

Ross Bovingdon, Topsham’s rugby supremo, said a ‘clinical performance’ comprising numerous elements undid Marlborough.

“Marlborough certainly enjoy the physical elements of the game, but we defended well and imposed ourselves on them with some great attacking and defensive work,” said Bovingdon.

“When Marlborough tired in the second half we became by far the more dominant team, playing some outstanding, free-flowing rugby.”
