REVIEW QUADROPHENIA: A MOD BALLET

- GILLIAN ADAMS

Reworking of rock opera a sheer delight

AT the end of the show, when the cast of Quadrophenia: A Mod Ballet returned for their curtain call, they were met with rapturous applause and a standing ovation. It was well deserved.

With iconic songs, modern dance, cool outfits, parkas and even a vespa, this reworking of Quadrophenia (which began its UK tour at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth last week) is something that you never knew you needed to watch.

Let's rewind back to the early 1970s when The Who's guitarist and songwriter, Pete Townshend, came up with the story of a troubled young mod called Jimmy. It was set in 1965, in London and Brighton, and the story encompassed themes of identity, rebellion and the search for belonging.
