Pupils gain construction experience

TEENAGERS have swapped classrooms for construction sites in Devon as part of a unique hands-on work experience week aimed at inspiring the next generation of builders, planners and engineers.

Pupils from Isca Academy, St James School, Queen Elizabeth's School and Exmouth Community College took part in Construction Work Experience Week, organised by Building Greater Exeter in partnership with Exeter College. The five-day programme offered Year 10 students a practical insight into the range of careers available within the building industry.

From bricklaying and carpentry to roofing and plastering, the week was packed with activities designed to develop employability skills and broaden students’ horizons.
