Proper football was a pleasure to watch
Western Morning News
|July 30, 2025
I CONFESS that when women’s football started to emerge from the shadows again, I didn’t take to it much.
Seeing all female teams and hearing female commentators just felt kind of, well, weird. That was my failing.
However, after watching the WSL matches and women’s tournaments on TV, I have seen the light. I’m a convert. However, it saddens and worries me that others, like the multi trophy-winning Joey Barton and his kind, are less than enthusiastic about women playing the beautiful game. I've seen comments mocking the worth of retaining the European Championship, the quality of women’s teams, and saying things like: “It doesn't count because it’s not proper football”
