Japan checks damage after earthquake as aftershocks continue

JAPAN was yesterday assessing damage and cautioning people about potential aftershocks, after Monday's 7.5-magnitude earthquake caused injuries, damage and a tsunami in Pacific coastal communities.

At least 34 people were injured, one seriously, Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency said yesterday. Most of the casualties were hit by falling objects, public broadcaster NHK reported.
