August 28, 2025

THE head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is receiving special police protection from authorities in Austria, following a threat, the Vienna-based organisation has acknowledged.

The development comes as IAEA inspectors have reportedly returned to Iran to monitor a fuel transfer at the country’s sole nuclear power plant. The protection for IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi has been put in place as tensions over Iran's nuclear programme are rising again.
