Access to scenic cove is barred over safety fears

A CORNISH beach which starred in Poldark and was ranked alongside the best in the world has been closed for safety reasons by the National Trust.

The “Instagrammable” Pedn Vounder beach, near the tip of Cornwall, is off limits due to the steep cliff path to the sands being eroded away.

The National Trust has now roped off the path, which is on its land, and put up a sign saying “danger, no access”. The charity said it realises beachgoers will be disappointed and that the closure was “not taken lightly”.

It stressed the decision was made after talks with council representatives and the emergency services and stressed it is a temporary measure while it reviews “options”.

Pedn Vounder, near Porthcurno on the Penwith Peninsula, can only be accessed for a couple of hours a day because of the tides but nevertheless has made it onto a list of the 50 best beaches in the World.
