REFORM UK's deputy leader at Cornwall Council has made a shock move and left the party and is now representing his ward as a standalone Independent.

- Lee Trewhela

Cllr Rowland O'Connor has resigned from the party just five months after being elected to the council.

A statement by Cllr O'Connor, who represents the St Columb Major, St Mawgan and St Wenn division, has been issued via St Columb Major Town Council. He said: "I would like to share an important update with you personally. After careful reflection, I have decided to resign from both the Reform UK party and my position as deputy chair of the Reform UK council group within Cornwall Council.
