Club cancels fixtures as travellers park on pitch

A CRICKET club has had to cancel fixtures after their site was taken over by travellers “breaking in’ and parking vans on the pitch.

Pictures and drone footage have been captured of tyre-markings that have resulted from the unauthorised encampment at Plymstock Cricket Club.

The Devon-based club said it had to cancel everything going on at the club “for the foreseeable future” - with the tennis and football teams also affected.

The club posted on social media that a “group of travellers” had broken into their pitch on 28 July - and claimed some were throwing rocks at people. They stated: “Unfortunately our pitch has been broken onto and we now have a group of travellers setting up camp.
