REGULAR readers may well have been wondering what happened to my boastful plans to walk the entire South West Coast Path this summer. Well, here is an update. Not much has happened.

As Marcus Aurelius so rightly said, my ambition did indeed exceed my worth. It was the whole “Couch to 5k, New Year 2023 resolution, brand new trainers” debacle all over again.

After making it up Golden Cap well over a month ago, things went suspiciously quiet on the hiking front. I was given walking poles for my birthday several weeks ago. But by mid-July they had not even been out of their bag. Now, my inspiration for this whole plan has been my Dad and his wife Chris, who have been doing The Path in chunks since before Covid.
