Winners of Wales Book of the Year announced

THE winners of Wales Book of the Year 2025 have been announced.
Carys Davies' novel Clear took the overall title in the English language category, while the overall winner in the Welsh language category was Iola Ynyr for her book Camu.
The winners were revealed by Literature Wales during an award ceremony held at Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, yesterday evening, which saw 10 winners take to the stage to claim a total prize fund of £14,000.
Carys Davies was born in Wales, grew up in Wales and the Midlands, lived and worked for 12 years in the US, and now lives in Edinburgh.
She took to the stage to collect the Fiction Award, supported by The Rhys Davies Trust, before returning to claim the overall award and the title Wales Book of the Year 2025.
Clear is a short novel set on a remote Scottish island in 1843. Ivar, the sole occupant, leads a life of quiet isolation until the day he finds a man unconscious on the beach below the cliffs.
The newcomer is John Ferguson, an impoverished church minister sent to evict Ivar and turn the island into grazing land for sheep. Unaware of the stranger's intentions, Ivar takes him into his home, and despite the two men having no common language, a fragile bond begins to form between them.
