Why I love visiting Wales' 'best' seaside town in autumn

Autumn is Portia Jones' favourite time of year to visit our seaside towns and Tenby is no exception
-
JUST because summer is over doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy Wales’ sandy shores and seaside towns in the months ahead. Our craggy coastline is among the most beautiful in the world and can be enjoyed year-round especially in autumn when you can traverse the coast path and have hot chocolates in cosy beach cafés.
Autumn is my favourite time to visit Wales' seaside towns. It can be quieter and accommodation is potentially cheaper (especially if you bag a great deal). Tenby, widely considered one of Wales' best seaside towns, is one of my favourite places to visit in the off-season.
With picturesque beaches just a short stroll from the lively town centre, quaint cobbled streets that could rival those in Italy or the French Riviera, and a collection of eye-catching, brightly-coloured houses that many towns across Britain would envy it's hardly surprising that this coastal jewel consistently tops the list of the "best" seaside towns in the whole of the UK.
The 'jewel in the crown' of the 'Welsh Riviera', Tenby has long been a tourist hotspot and is one of Wales' most popular seaside towns. Here you'll find a picturesque harbour, Georgian houses, sandy beaches, independent cafés and coastal walks along the charming shorelines.
Stepping beyond its historic 13th-century walls you'll be greeted by sun-drenched beaches and dramatic cliffside vistas over the sea towards the mesmerising Caldey Island.
I have visited Tenby many, many times over the years, from childhood holidays to grownup escapes with friends and my significant other, and I love it a bit more with each visit. While summer is perfect for sea swimming and long wine-filled afternoons on suntrap pub terraces I have come to appreciate Tenby more in autumn.
