The key questions that remain around future of Welsh rugby

WELSH Rugby Union chiefs must think the questions are never-ending.

- LIAM SULLIVAN

But there's a reason for that. The questions keep coming because people feel they aren't being told the answers.

Maybe they weren't expecting a reaction like this. Maybe when WRU chief executive Abi Tierney, chair Richard Collier-Keywood and director of rugby Dave Reddin signed off on the plan to cut the number of men's professional teams, they expected the public to just shrug their shoulders and get on with life.

But Welsh rugby is not like that. It has passion. It's tribal. To some, it's in the blood.

That's why there are so many questions. Ospreys fans want the reasons why it's their team who for the past few weeks have appeared most at risk of the axe at some point within the next 18 months.

Mr Collier-Keywood will leave his post this summer, although the extraordinary general meeting of the Welsh Rugby Union at which he was originally due to face a vote of no confidence will still go ahead as planned at the Principality Stadium on Monday.

Maybe some of the core questions that need answering will be addressed in Cardiff next week. Here are some to be getting on with...

1. No Plan B? Really?

This is important.

Mr Collier-Keywood told a Senedd hearing that the three-club model was the only one the WRU was actively pursuing.
