Stadium zip wire closed after failing to take off, admits WRU boss

The attraction, named Scale, opened in April last year at a cost of around £5m to the Welsh Rugby Union and offers visitors the chance to walk around the 60m-high stadium roof, zip wire across its canopy and abseil down to the ground. To do all three costs £89 per person, while the simple roof walk alone is £44.

Despite being launched amid high hopes of driving big revenue for the union, interest in it has been hugely disappointing to the point where the WRU had to act.

It was not operational during concert season at the stadium this summer, and those wanting to visit the attraction are still unable to buy tickets, with no dates available to book on the Scale website.

Prospective customers are being told the attraction is “temporarily closed” due to “ongoing operational issues” with no date yet confirmed for when it will reopen.

The WRU has now issued a statement to the Western Mail explaining what is going on.
