Sentence appeal over paddleboard deaths dismissed
Western Mail
|June 06, 2026
A WOMAN who caused the deaths of four people in a paddleboarding tragedy on a Welsh river has had her hopes of reducing her prison sentence dashed by judges.
Nerys Bethan Lloyd, 39, was jailed last April for 10 years and six months after admitting gross negligence manslaughter in relation to the deaths of Andrea Powell, 41, from Bridgend, Morgan Rogers, 24, from Merthyr Tydfil, Paul O'Dwyer, 42, from Port Talbot, and Nicola Wheatley, 40, from Pontarddulais, Swansea, who were all on a paddleboarding trip organised by Lloyd on the River Cleddau in October 2021.
They died after reaching a fiercely fast-flowing Haverfordwest town weir on the River Cleddau which they were unable to navigate.
