Potentially-deadly bacteria in link to 'biggest festival in Wales'
Western Mail
|November 28, 2025
PUBLIC Health Wales has confirmed a number of attendees at a Welsh festival this summer contracted a bacteria that could have life-threatening consequences.
The Big Tribute Festival at Lovesgrove farm in Aberystwyth
The Big Tribute Festival claims to be the “biggest festival in Wales” and was held at Lovesgrove farm in Aberystwyth between August 22 and 24.
A “small number” of festival-goers contracted an infection at the event. Officials have not yet established the exact source but it can be spread via contaminated food, close contact with an infected person or direct contact with an infected animal or its environment.
Public Health Wales declared an outbreak of 026 Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC) linked to the event, and is working alongside Ceredigion County Council and Hywel Dda University Health Board to investigate.
People infected with STEC can suffer from bloody diarrhoea, stomach cramps and fever, although some have no symptoms at all.
