PM silent on if he'll campaign in town
Western Mail
|October 17, 2025
WITH less than a week to go until the by-election in Caerphilly, the Prime Minister has failed to answer why he hasn't been there campaigning.
-
The Labour heartland seat has only ever been held by the party in both Westminster and the Senedd but both Plaid Cymru and Reform UK are confident of causing an upset.
Before the Labour party conference in Liverpool, the Prime Minister was asked by the BBC last month whether he would go to Caerphilly campaigning.
He said: “I don’t know whether I'm going to Caerphilly. It’s obviously coming up very soon and we've got our party conference next week.”
Asked if he was an electoral asset there he said: “I work very well with the First Minister and as long as we keep championing the difference we're making that's what matters.”
There were then different reasons given for his absence from the campaign trail.
