Fantastic four point the way ahead for BBM's Bluebirds
Western Mail
|July 25, 2025
CARDIFF City let a two-goal lead slip as they were held to a draw by QPR in their penultimate preseason outing on Wednesday.
The Bluebirds looked in complete control during an impressive first-half display, with Callum Robinson opening the scoring before Rubin Colwill rifled home a stunning second to put Brian Barry-Murphy’s side firmly in command.
But Kader Dembele pulled one back for QPR before the break, and substitute Jaylan Pearman struck on the counter in the second half to level the contest.
There were encouraging signs in attack for Cardiff, particularly during the opening 45 minutes, but familiar defensive concerns resurfaced - an issue that has plagued the club for the past two seasons.
Still, it proved another useful workout for Barry-Murphy, who now has just 10 days to iron out the remaining issues before the Championship campaign kicks off.
So, here, we take a look at who impressed for the Bluebirds in west London.
DYLAN LAWLOR
TYPICALLY, it’s normal to get excited about a tricky winger, a goalscoring striker or a playmaker with matchwinning moments in them.
But this summer, it’s a centre-back fans should be getting pumped up about. And a teenage centre-back at that.
This boy looks like he’s got all the attributes to be a top player.
Although that, of course, is said advisedly with the caveat that he is only 19 and has just a couple of first team appearances to his name.
But against QPR, the Wales youth international - who was called up to Craig Bellamy’s senior training camp in the summer - has got an X-factor about him.
