Beddau hit the try trail to move just a point off top

BEDDAU moved to within a point of the summit in the Admiral Premiership with a comprehensive 57-15 home win over Narberth at Mount Pleasant Park.

Hooker Ethan Coombes scored a first-half hat-trick for the Green and Golds, who had their bonus point in the bag after only 22 minutes and by halftime had opened up a 36-5 lead.

Sam Gibson, Callaghan Smith, Adam Ashford, Sam Tiley, Efan Jones and Lloyd James were the other Beddau try scorers. Smith (5) and Ollie Wilde added the conversions.

Tom Powell replied with a try in each half for the Otters, with Aled Davies also scoring a consolation for the visitors.

A 10th win from 11 matches moved second-placed Beddau to within a point of leaders Merthyr, who top the table at Christmas despite their scheduled clash at Cross Keys being postponed due to a waterlogged Pandy Park pitch.

With their next game not until January 3, champions Merthyr will be overtaken before the turn of the year by either Beddau or Pontypridd who meet at Sardis Road on Boxing Day. But Merthyr will then have two games in hand on both of those sides.
