A sensitive approach to struggling pupils

THEY say your schooldays are the best days of your life, but if you are one of those who - for a variety of reasons - struggles at school, they're far from it, and it can impact the rest of your life.

Tai, which is in Rhondda Cynon Taf, is one of a number of pupil referral units (PRUs) around Wales helping children who struggle in mainstream school.

They have a reputation as places for unruly children who have been excluded from schools or are at risk of exclusion.

But teachers say the reality is that some children, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic, find they cannot cope in mainstream schooling and need more support, often because of factors beyond their control.
