Call for A30 action after fatal crashes

A CORONER has ordered action to be taken to make a main A-road safer after a spate of fatal crashes.

Four people have died on the same stretch of the A30 between Yeovil and Sherborne in just over four years.
Dorset’s senior coroner Rachael Griffin in a prevention of future deaths report sent concerns to Dorset Council following the death of Charlotte Avis (pictured inset). The 30-year-old died in the crash on the A30 between Yeovil and Sherborne on December 1, 2022.
Sylwester Mielczarek, from Yeovil, admitted causing her death by careless driving and was given a 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, at Salisbury Crown Court in February.
Mrs Griffin’s report said there were eight crashes at the site of Ms Avis’ death since the start of 2014 until March. Other fatal crashes were reported there in January 2020, December 2022 and February 2024.
