AVATERI can come out on top in an eagerly-awaited battle with Gstaad and Distant Storm to maintain a perfect juvenile record and claim the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

- CAPTAIN WESSEX

Eve Johnson Houghton has already confirmed the Group One contest will be her star colt’s final start of a stunning campaign, which has seen the two-year-old land the July Stakes, Vintage Stakes and the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes.

That latter saw a titanic tussle with Aidan O'Brien's Gstaad, coming out on top by a head at the Curragh.

Distant Storm, trained by Charlie Appleby, comes into the equation following his Tattersalls Stakes win last month, but Zavateri knows how to put his head down and might have been a shade better value than the narrow margin suggests last time.

He seems certain to relish the run to the line after they come out of the dip and it will take a determined one to beat him.
