PIP LARKHAM travels to the Cotswolds for a lovely lunch with fine views, despite the rain

HERE were plenty of hairpin bends to contend with as we wound our way uphill for a lunch date at Burleigh Court Hotel. But our vertical climb signalled one very appealing thing to me - fine views from our destination. And it turns out we weren't disappointed.

Just up the road from the pretty Cotswold village of Nailsworth, this Grade II-listed Cotswolds 18th-century manor has a popular restaurant (The Burleigh) with two AA rosettes to its name.

On the Thursday lunchtime we visited, there was a lovely convivial atmosphere in the dining room with a mix of people from a birthday party to couples and tourists. Despite 2025's long, hot and dry summer, we were now experiencing an unusually wet September, so those frequent sharp and sudden showers meant we had to dine inside - a real shame as we gazed at the outside seating from our table, but we still had the most stunning, far reaching views across the Stroud valleys from our sash window seat, and the changing colours of the season gave them an extra vibrancy.
