Support centres funded for more than 1.8m veterans

MORE than 1.8 million veterans across the country will benefit from new local support centres, the Government has announced.

The centres, which will help improve access to support services including health, housing and employment, are a key element of the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD)’s new veterans strategy published today.
Finance, wellbeing and welfare services could also be supported by the centres, which are part of the Government's Valour programme to support veterans.
The Government said it was committing an additional £12 million to homelessness services for veterans on top of the £50 million already announced for the Valour fund.
Defence Secretary John Healey, inset, said: “The first duty of Government is to keep our country safe, and that is only possible through the extraordinary men and women in our armed forces.
