Safeguarding review shows Sara's murder was ‘preventable

‘A SERIES of failures to protect 10-year-old Sara Sharif from her abusive father and stepmother have shown that her death was avoidable and preventable, the Children’s Commissioner and the Education Secretary said.

A lengthy review concluded there had been multiple missed opportunities to save Sara, above, from harm and that she was “failed by the safeguarding system’.

The report, published yesterday, said domestic abuse by Sara's father, Urfan Sharif, had been overlooked and underestimated, with even safeguarding professionals appearing to have been “groomed and manipulated” by him over the years.
