Nuclear waste issue is still a big concern

IT used to be fun trying to save the world. Back in the 1980s, we all had a good “protest” or two, like stopping the construction of a nuclear power plant where the Eden Project now stands - remember Luxulyan?

Now protests are short-lived, not very practical, and tend to annoy everyone, like superglueing your nearest and dearest to the M25 rather than trying to solve real problems.

Maybe it’s a sign of success that some environmental groups are dead set on stopping green projects that were once laughed about when we lived on brown rice and wore sandals.

Actually, I wore a suit and tie, which rather annoyed the “Men from the Ministry” who once told me to go back to my “Hebridean Hovel” because I was extolling the possibilities of renewable energy, or alternative technology as it was then called.

Back then, the prospect of large-scale wind and solar generation was dismissed as total fiction, as was tidal generation.
