Mosque suspends chair in ‘review’

A PROMINENT Bristol councillor and magistrate has been suspended from his position as chair of the biggest mosque in the city as part of a review by the Charity Commission into social media posts from two years ago.

The investigation and suspension appears to be the latest fallout from the day Cllr Abdul Malik, right, shared a video of a Hamas press conference in the wake of its attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Cllr Malik (Green, Ashley) is chair of the Easton Jamia Masjid mosque, but has revealed he has been “temporarily suspended” while the “Charity Commission reviews a historic social media matter” from 2023.
The local businessman has already received a formal warning from the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office, in respect of his position as a magistrate in Bristol.
