Marchioness set for 10k safari run
Western Daily Press
|June 17, 2025
It seems wise for anyone planning a 10k run across a Kenyan safari park to get plenty of practice under their belt.
Which is why Emma Thynn, Marchioness of Bath, has been pounding the lanes of Longleat early every morning.
With hip-hop in her ears and the rising sun casting light across the Wiltshire estate, she is training for one of the world’s most unique endurance events - the 2025 Lewa Safari Marathon.
Taking place across the wild terrain of northern Kenya home to lions, leopards and endangered species like black rhinos it’s a test of stamina, spirit and purpose.
"Conservation is so important; we all need to be conscious of how precious our planet is, and we can make a difference if we all work together," she says.
She is speaking while feeding the giraffes at Longleat, with her sons, John, Viscount Weymouth and Lord Henry Thynn, whose delight at the experience is clear to see as they feed the animals, one of which is named after their mum.
"They have endless energy," laughs Emma, 39, as she turns to respond to a “look mum” request from the duo.
