THE rope used to pull down Bristol's Edward Colston statue and a T-shirt by graffiti artist Banksy given to the those protesters prosecuted over the toppling are excepted to fetch £15, 000 at auction.

- STAFF REPORTER

The city centre statue of the slave trader was pulled down from its plinth in 2020 during a Black Lives Matter protest and then dragged through the centre before being dumped in the nearby harbour.

Later four people often referred to as the “Colston 4” ~ were charged with causing criminal damage.

Before the trial the graffiti artist Banksy is said to have met them at a pub and given them a signed T-shirt each in support.

On January 5, 2022 a jury found the four defendants not guilty.

Auctioneum Ltd is now selling one of the four’s T-shirts along with the rope they used to pull the statue down. Auctioneer Andrew Stowe said the sale was a result of “one of the most defining moments in modern history”
