JD WELSH CUP FINAL

CHRIS Marriott has become almost a permanent fixture in the JD Welsh Cup final over the past decade, featuring in nine of the last 10 games.

Now the 35-year-old defender (pictured) is hoping to make it eight wins in 11 years by lining up in the Connah's Quay Nomads side - against the team that he played in that lost to them in last year’s final at Rodney Parade.

His return to the home venue of Newport County today will see him wear a Nomads shirt instead of The New Saints colours he wore with such distinction for 15 years. In that time he made 375 appearances and won 26 trophies.

But having been the losing captain in last year’s final, he wants to become a winner again this weekend and not only help the Nomads keep a firm grip on the oldest and most prestigious piece of silverware in Welsh football, but also clinch a place in Europe.
