Criminals operate confidently, says GBV coordinator

When Vukani arrived at the scene a few hours after the incident, senior provincial police officials and brigadiers were already on site, with the area cordoned off as investigators processed evidence.

It is understood that the officer had dropped his wife at church earlier in the day and was due to pick her up later, when the shooting occurred at approximately 3pm.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said Western Cape police are “still reeling from shock” following the murder of the Nyanga off-duty sergeant.

‘Official reports indicate that the 47-year-old SAPS member was in the Khayelitsha area visiting a relative when two gunmen entered the premises in Town Two at approximately 2.55pm.

They fired multiple shots at him and fled in a vehicle,’ said Potelwa.
