Wind power opens industrial opportunity within Vietnam
Vietnam Investment Review
|June 01, 2026
Wind power is increasingly being viewed as a strategic industrial opportunity capable of reshaping parts of the country’s manufacturing and engineering sectors.
As executives from global developers, turbine manufacturers, and Vietnamese industrial groups exchanged views at the media briefing for the APAC Wind Energy Summit 2026 last week in Hanoi, one message repeatedly surfaced that wind power is increasingly becoming an industrial story.
To illustrate the scale of economic value that wind power can generate, Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) revealed that the company has already participated in offshore wind projects totalling around 6GW, including the fabrication of 33 jacket foundations and 10 offshore substations.
According to Nguyen Tuan, the commercial head of PTSC, just one offshore wind foundation fabrication project generates export revenues worth hundreds of millions of US dollars and creates jobs for nearly 3,000 workers.
“It is not only about revenue or foreign currency earnings. More importantly, it is about national self-reliance,” Tuan said. “If Vietnam cannot build its own wind power industry, it will be difficult to independently develop future renewable energy capacity because we would remain dependent on overseas supply chains.”
Against the backdrop of rising electricity demand, mounting pressure for energy security, and global supply-chain shifts towards Southeast Asia, speakers at the event noted that both offshore and onshore wind are opening opportunities for Vietnam to build an entirely new industrial ecosystem spanning manufacturing, marine engineering, logistics, technical services, and clean-energy supply chains.
For years, Vietnam’s renewable energy discussions mainly focused on electricity shortages, energy security, and climate commitments.
However, conversations around wind power are rapidly evolving. Speakers at the media briefing said that the greatest long-term value of wind energy may lie in the industrial ecosystem built behind each undertaking.
