Improvements urged at site of collision that led to death of 84-year-old man

IMPROVEMENTS are set to be made at a West London junction after an 84-year-old man died from being hit by a car.
-
Terence William Gillard died after crossing a three-lane carriageway on the A4 Great West Road in Hounslow on September 11, 2022, near its junction with Jersey Road. He used the crossing, which the report said had no designated pedestrian crossing lights.
The report added: “Mr Gillard crossed the road at a time he considered safe to do so and whilst doing so, the traffic lights turned green in favour of the cars whilst Mr Gillard was still in the road trying to complete the crossing.
“Mr Gillard collided with a moving vehicle and suffered brain and multiple traumatic injuries which led to a pulmonary embolism from which he died on September 18 2022 in hospital.”
The medical cause of death was found to be a pulmonary embolism alongside multiple traumatic injuries, including to the brain. The coroner said they believed there was a risk of future deaths at the crossing unless action was taken.
The report was sent to Transport for London (TfL), Hounslow Council and the Department for Transport (DfT). The director of investment planning at TfL said they were very sorry to hear of the tragic death of Mr Gillard.
