WHOEVER suggested that one of life's biggest mistakes is to meet your heroes never had the privilege of an audience with Denis Law.

One of the perks of this job is speaking to footballers you idolised during your childhood and I was lucky to interview the Lawman a few times down the years, usually at a Manchester United commercial event when the club needed a legend to help seal the deal.

But I had also been fortunate to meet the great man many years earlier, thanks to playing Sunday League football with his eldest son, Gary.

We had a decent team, too, reaching the final of the Wythenshawe Sunday League Cup at Maine Road, when Denis presented us with the trophy and winners' medals before joining in with the celebrations.
