Swiss you the best

For most holidaymakers the prospect of a holiday in Switzerland probably conjures up fantastic chocolate and mountains, much like you see on the front of Toblerone packaging.

And after having just been there, I can confirm that’s exactly what it's like.

My trip took me to Lausanne on my trip, which is the capital and largest city of the Swiss French-speaking canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It's picturesque, full of rolling hills, and is on the shores of Lake Geneva, about halfway between the Jura Mountains and the Alps.

The city is quaint - with a population of around 140,000 - but this still makes it the fourth largest in Switzerland behind Basel, Geneva and Zurich. T

There’ definitely a cosy vibe that if you lived there youd constantly be bumping into into friends when out and about.

When it comes to things to do, the city is a food lover's dream - especially if you're into your chocolate and desserts.

There’ also tons to keep you amused, from hill-walking (obviously), to wine tasting, checking out the Olympic Museum and heading to the trendy art district.

Of course, Switzerland is renowned for its chocolate so it almost feels rude not to indulge. Way back in 1875, a Swiss confectioner, Daniel Peter, developed the first commercial milk chocolate recipe using condensed milk.

The tradition of chocolate making has continued in the city, with many of its chocolatiers making their creations by hand.

The best way to see (and taste) the best chocolates in the city is to do the Lausanne Choco Tour. This allows you to visit five of the best chocolate shops the city has to offer - from Blondel, to Favarger and La Chocolatiere.
