ONE JAIL DRONE DROPS £23K OF CONTRABAND

A SINGLE drone can smuggle up to £23,000 of banned items, such as drugs and mobile phones, into prisons, a report reveals.

The contraband in 66 intercepted drone deliveries at HMP Lewes in East Sussex was worth £1.5million - an average of nearly £23,000 each.

And on a single night in 2024, there were 30 separate drone drops at the same jail.

Some crafts, which also carry food, cigarettes, weapons, SIM cards and phone chargers, can be flown right up to cell windows.
