Many of us are counting down the days until we fly off on holiday, away from busy daily life and to spend some time at the beach, but sometimes, at the time of checking in for a flight, we find seats have been allocated poorly.

Here, an anonymous former check-in agent at Heathrow, the UK's busiest airport, shares some information as to when the most appropriate time is to ask for a seat change - and it's not at check-in.

The best time is after check-in closes, and in some cases after all passengers have boarded.
