- BY DAVID ANDERSON

FLORENTINO LUIS is delighted to have finally made it to the Premier League with Burnley after seeing a move to Aston Villa collapse.

Burnley travel to Villa Park today and Unai Emery's side tried to sign Luis in 2023 and 2024.

They could not agree a fee with Benfica and instead Luis, right, joined Burnley on a season-long move on transfer deadline day.

Luis, who won two Portuguese titles with Benfica, refuses to dwell on what might have been ahead of today's clash with Villa.

"There are things that happen in football," said the defensive midfielder. "Sometimes you have the expectation to go to one place, but after things don't happen.

"The most important thing for me is the present and I'm happy here."

Luis has started Burnley's last two games beside Josh Cullen and says he is learning from his skipper.

"He's a very good player and he's a player who knows how to lead the team and it's been a pleasure to play with him," he said.
