City were there for the taking... Bloom just needed Poniros up front
The Sunday Mirror
|March 16, 2025
TONY BLOOM couldn't beat the odds for a second time - but it's been quite a couple of days for the Brighton owner.

After seeing his horse Poniros produce the shock of the Cheltenham Festival on Friday when the 100/1 hope won the Triumph Hurdle, the man who made his fortune in the gambling industry came close to landing the most dazzling of doubles.
Albion will never have a better opportunity of winning at Manchester City for the first time.
But both Jack Hinshelwood and Carlos Baleba lacked composure in front of goal with victory there for the taking for Fabian Hurzeler's side in the closing stages.
City also had their chances, Nico Gonzalez heading the best of them against a post.
City remain fifth, just one point above the Seagulls, but this result will be welcomed by the chasing pack.
And Brighton's young team would light up Europe.
Jockey Jonjo O'Neill Jr (right) wore navy blue and white silks when he thrilled the Cheltenham crowds.
Albion were in their all-yellow second kit in Manchester. Bloom (below) recognises a thoroughbred when he sees one.
