Fans here include a father-and-son duo who create Instagram videos about their record collection that draw up to five million views
Once or twice a week, music-obsessed C.K. Teo, 52, and his son Teo Ming Yang, 15, pull out highlights from their 9,000-strong record collection and post a video on Instagram.
What Mr Teo describes as a father-son bonding activity has, in recent years, won them fans and followers from around the world.
Their account, myllck, boasts 248,000 followers, many from the United States, Britain and Brazil. The name is made up of their initials and that of Mr Teo's wife, housewife Pauline Ling Ling Ang.
The duo's content has been reposted by renowned musicians such as jazz icon Herbie Hancock, and American drummer and producer Questlove follows the page and has posted comments. One Instagram video about British soul singer Yazmin Lacey in 2023 garnered five million views.
Mr Teo says: "I'm blessed to have a 15-year-old boy who shares my passion. I see so many of my friends who don't talk to their teenage sons anymore."
Their posts are so popular among record collectors that they have been approached by independent record labels worldwide that send them records in exchange for posts. They have also collaborated with audio company Sennheiser.
While the page was started by Mr Teo more than 10 years ago, both started making videos about their records only during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, first on YouTube and then on Instagram.
Mr Teo, co-founder of People Impact, a life-skills school for children, says his initial intention was to bond with Ming Yang through the videos. "Also, because I do life skills training, I wanted my son to be able to speak in front of the camera about his passion."
The videos are filmed in a room at their Punggol condominium, where their prized collection is neatly stored in custom-made, floor-to-ceiling shelves. When the family moved into the 1,400 sq ft unit a little under a decade ago, Mr Teo removed the walls between two bedrooms to create the storage space for the records.
