Telling your Singapore story
The Straits Times
|November 28, 2025
The Straits Times and Uniqlo have partnered to produce a T-shirt collection spotlighting Singapore stories.
-
Six designs are available, three from the newspaper and three chosen from public submissions. Each plays on familiar local figures and vibes. The mosaic dragon of Toa Payoh’s retro playground is the nostalgia icon and star of one shirt. In another, a mynah bird peers out of the corner of its eye. A samsui woman and roti prata feature too, while native species like the leopard cat and handsome fungus beetle are reminders of Singapore's lesser-known wildlife. The UTme! x ST180 collection is on sale from Nov 28 to July 31.
This partnership with Uniqlo has been a wonderful way to celebrate local creativity, and a great way to end a year's events and celebrations that marked ST180. We're inspired by all who took part, whose designs so beautifully capture the stories of everyday Singapore.
The winners of a T-shirt design contest jointly organised by The Straits Times and Uniqlo were announced at the Japanese apparel chain’s flagship store in Orchard Central on Nov 27.
Their three original designs are launching on Nov 28 as part of the UTme! x ST180 collection, themed Telling Your Singapore Story. ST contributed another three designs.
The roll-out is one of a series of events in 2025 marking the newspaper's 180th anniversary.
