When Mr Sharif (not his real name) returned from Bangladesh in June 2024, his colleagues sensed something was wrong. The once-cheerful worker was uncharacteristically quiet.

A well-being check-in revealed that he was mourning the death of a loved one. "He was visibly withdrawn, but eventually opened up through our Happy Index questionnaire," recalls Mr Peter Tung, safety coordinator and mental well-being champion at LSK Engineering, a mechanical and electrical firm.

Recognising his struggles, Mr Tung spoke with Mr Sharif and reassigned him to lighter duties, giving him the time and space he needed to recover.

"Today, he's thriving and has stepped up to become a peer supporter himself," says Mr Tung, who is trained in psychological first aid.
