N. Korea marks 10 years of Kim's rule with various events

A portrait of North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un at a meeting in Pyongyang on Sunday to commemorate his 10-year anniversary as head of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea.

North Korea has praised Mr Kim Jong Un's leadership in developing nuclear weapons, touted his political achievements and unveiled a new portrait and exhibitions to celebrate his 10 years in charge of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

Mr Kim is considered to have assumed power when he was named supreme commander of the military after his father Kim Jong Il died in December 2011.

Yesterday marked 10 years since the younger Mr Kim was elected the top party and state leader. The Kim family has ruled the one-party state for its entire history.

In a speech at a national meeting on Sunday, Mr Choe Ryong Hae from the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK central committee and one of the most senior officials under Mr Kim, praised the leader as “a gifted thinker and theoretician, outstanding statesman and peerlessly great commander".
