Club-record deal will see coveted German joining ex-Leverkusen teammate Frimpong

LONDON - Liverpool have agreed a club-record deal worth up to £116 million (S$201 million) to sign attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, it was widely reported on June 13.
Sky Sports reported that the 22-year-old Germany international is now free to speak to Liverpool, but personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
He will undergo a medical next week, when he returns from a holiday.
The Premier League champions will pay an initial £100 million, comfortably surpassing their own record outlay, but if the performance-related add-ons are also included, it would become a potential British record.
The Reds' overall outlay for him could surpass the £115 million Chelsea agreed to pay Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023 for midfielder Moises Caicedo, who cost Chelsea an initial £100 million fee, excluding add-ons.
Striker Darwin Nunez was Liverpool's previous record signing in 2022, although they have not paid the full £85 million to his former club Benfica as he has not met all the requirements for certain add-ons to be due.
