Death toll from flash floods in Sumatra rises to 67

In tears, Mr Yose Rizal, 43, placed flowers on the graves of his sister and niece who died during the intense flooding in Indonesia's West Sumatra province. Three of Mr Yose's relatives are still missing.

Mr Yose's family was having a meeting when the flash floods struck on the evening of May 12, he said.

"The water came very sudden, it was difficult to escape," Mr Yose told Reuters.

"Praise the Lord, my parents, who were at the meeting, survived." The number of people killed by flash floods and mudslides over the weekend has risen to 67, and 20 are still missing, the authorities said on May 16.
