'CONFIDENT' FRITZ SHUTS OUT ZVEREV

Taylor Fritz said he was "confident in his game" after becoming the first American since 2006 to reach the ATP Finals title match, winning a slugfest against world No. 2 Alexander Zverev in Turin on Nov 16.

The 27-year-old fought off numerous break points in a cliffhanger deciding set to win 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), ending a 2hr 20min duel with a stunning forehand winner.

"I felt like I played an almost perfect first set, but things can change so quickly when you're playing someone like Sascha. I found myself in some tough spots in the third, when we both started to get on each other's serves even more," Fritz said.

"I trust my game and I trust my level. I don't feel anywhere near as uncomfortable in these situations any more because I've been putting myself in these situations against the top guys at big events a lot lately... I'm really confident in my game."

Fritz will face either home favorite and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner or Norway's Casper Ruud in the final on Nov 17. That second semi-final took place after press time.
