Supreme Court to hear petitions challenging law on selection of CEC and ECs

The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, posted for February 4 a batch of petitions challenging the validity of the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act 2023, that excludes the Chief Justice of India from a panel for the selection of the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioners and gives the government a majority in the selection process.
