Investing in mother and Child health

Once plagued by some of the highest maternal and child mortality rates in the region, Bhutan has achieved a public health transformation that health officials say stands as a model for the developing world.

The country has made re markable progress in ensuring safer pregnancies, healthier newborns, and stronger healthcare systems across even the remotest corners of the country. Maternal mortality has plummeted from 777 deaths per 100,000 live births in 1984 to just 53 in 2023. Similarly, child mortality has dropped from 162.4 per 1,000 live births to 19.2 during the same period.
